Disposal Repair & Replacement in the Charleston Lowcountry Area
Leaking Disposals: They don’t last forever. A leaking disposal typically means it’s time to replace it. And remember, water and electricity do not mix well – the electrical wiring is in the bottom of most disposals, so we recommend not using your disposal if it’s leaking.
Jammed/Humming Disposals: It’s never good to hear your disposal hum. This usually means that something has lodged in the blade chamber. We often find toothpicks, popsicle sticks, clothes pins, chip clips, fish tank rocks, cat litter, bottle caps, screws, nails, spoons, forks, knives, and even rings lodged in the blade chamber. So be careful – if you hear grinding – turn it off and fix the problem.
Clogged Disposals: Disposals, especially the small drains you see under your kitchen sink, can clog. Sometimes the clog forms in the disposal arm or the trap. You can try a plunger but we usually have to remove the drains to get all the packed food out of them. We highly recommend flushing your disposal with lots of hot water after every use to help push the waste into your bigger drain lines.
Nothing Happens When You Flip the Switch: First, make sure your disposal is plugged in. Then push the reset button on the bottom of the unit (we recommend and install InSinkerator brand disposals because they have a reset button and a slot to manually rotate the blades on the bottom of the unit). If that doesn’t help, give a call and we’ll check it out.
Smelly Disposals: You don’t need to pay a plumber to make your disposal smell better. Try putting some ice and cut up lemon pieces (just remove the seeds) in there and grinding it up. Then flush it with a lot of hot water. We don’t recommend using harsh chemicals (liquid clog removers or bleach) in your disposal because they are corrosive to the metal components.
To keep things fair and affordable, our $45 dispatch fee is applied directly to your disposal service. Think of it as a down payment on getting your disposal spinning like new again.
Disposal Replacement: $255 – $480 (We recommend and install InSinkerator brand disposals)
Jammed Disposal: $185 – $225 (We’ll show you what we dig out of your unit)
Clogged Disposal: $185 – $255 (Price varies depending on wher the clog is actually located )
** Please let us know if you used liquid drain cleaner to try to clear the clog. We do not recommend liquid clog removers because the rarely work and they are hazardous to human health and plumbing piping/fixtures.
