Our Average Hose Bib Replacement Prices

Our $45 scheduling fee counts toward your Hose Bib service

To keep things fair and affordable, our $45 dispatch fee is applied directly to your hose bib replacement.

  • Hose Bib Replacement: $255 to $650

Why the range? Every home is a bit different! The final price depends on the type of hose bib and how tricky the installation is. A straightforward exterior mount sits on the lower end, while tighter spots—like crawl spaces—take a bit more time and labor.

At Swell Guy Plumbing, we do things right the first time. That’s why we usually recommend replacing an old, leaky hose bib instead of just swapping out a temporary washer. If we can’t confidently back our work with a warranty, we won’t do the job. We’re committed to giving you repairs that actually last.

Common Hose Bib Problems We Fix

  • Leaky Hose Bibs: Nothing lasts forever—including your outdoor spigots! If your hose bib is leaking, it’s usually a sign that it needs to be replaced. Every now and then, you can save time by just replacing the ‘guts’ of the valve, but that only works if you can track down the exact same model. Since that’s pretty rare, a brand-new hose bib is usually your best bet.

  • Broken Handles: Tracking down a handle that fits an old hose bib is like finding a needle in a haystack. Save yourself the headache and just replace the whole valve—it’s usually much easier and more reliable.

  • Hose Connection Stuck On Hose Bib: Many modern hoses manufactured over the last decade have moved away from traditional brass connections. Unfortunately, these alternative metals are prone to corroding and fusing directly to the hose bib, making them nearly impossible to remove without replacing the entire setup. To prevent this, we highly recommend disconnecting your garden hose after each use—unless you are certain it features a solid brass connection.

  • Freeze Damage: Hose bibs can and will freeze. They are typically the first item at your home to freeze when temperatrures fall below 32. Once frozen, the hose bib piping usually freezes too, which means the hose bib and a section of pipe has to be replaced to solve the problem.

  • Loose Hose Bibs: Outdoor spigots should be completely rigid—no spinning, wobbling, or pulling. We will check to see if we can secure your existing hose bib, but replacement may be required if it can’t be safely anchored.

  • Hose Bibs Attached With Galvanized Nipples: At Swell Guy Plumbing, we never use galvanized pipe to install hose bibs, as it is prone to rusting over time. Instead, we only use high-quality copper, brass, and PEX. If you notice a rust stain on the wall around a hose bib, it’s a strong indicator that a galvanized nipple was used and may need to be replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some common questions we get from customers.

Yes, especially for homes with crawl spaces, but with one major consideration: they only protect the valve itself, not the pipes leading to it. If the ambient air in your crawl space drops below freezing, the supply lines can still burst.

For homes built on a concrete slab, standard frost-proof hose bibs are usually too long to install. Because a slab home’s exterior walls are typically only 4 to 6 inches thick, there isn’t enough depth to house the long stem of a frost-proof valve without it poking out into your actual living space.

Yes, they are actually required by modern plumbing codes. While they can be a bit annoying—like when they spray you with water when you turn off the spigot with a hose attached—they serve a critical safety purpose. They prevent contaminated water (like puddle water, fertilizer, or lawn chemicals) from being siphoned backward into your home’s clean drinking water supply if there is a sudden drop in water pressure.

A quick warning: If you attempt to remove a stuck or locking vacuum breaker, please be incredibly careful. They are often secured with a break-away set screw. Forcing it can permanently destroy the threads on your outdoor spigot, turning a simple fix into a mandatory spigot replacement.
